* ; The Attorney-General (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason), accompanied by Mrs Mason, arrived in Christchurch last evening from Ashburton, where he opened the new Courthouse yesterday. They guests at the New Wellington Hotel, and will return to Wellington by the steamer express to-night. The Rev. E. P. Blamires, youth director of the Methodist Church of New Zealand, and Mr N. R. Seddon, a member of the church’s youth board, are visiting Melbourne to attend meetings of the Australian Graded Sunday School Lessons’ Committee. Mr C. C. Warner, formerly superintendent of the Christchurch Fire Brigade, is visiting the city. He arrived from the north by the steamer express yesterday morning. Mr J. K. Collins, who, before going to England held a second lieutenant’s commission in the Ist Canterbury Regiment, has been gazetted to the 2nd Manchester Regiment, and is stationed at Catterick camp, near York. Mr T. M. Penny, 8.A., of Christchurch, at present a member of the staif of the Pleasant Point District High School, has been appointed to the staff of St. Andrew’s College. Mr Penny, who is an old boy of the college, will take up his duties towards the end of this month. Mr W. A. Hislop, general manager Universal Pictures Pty., Ltd., arrived in Christchurch from Wellington yesterday morning. Mr H. C. Lusty, Assistant-Chief Engineer, New -Zealand Railways, who has been visiting Christchurch on departmental business, left for the north by the steamer express last evening. The Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, M.P., was a passenger from the north by the steamer express yesterday morning. Messrs D. Barnes, H. S. S. Kyle, A. G. Osborne, and J. Hargest, members of Parliament, arrived from the north by the steamer express yesterday morning. Mr J. W. Beanland returned to Christchurch by the steamer express yesterday morning. Messrs A. E. Kincaid, W. A. Hislop, H. Ralph, F. Saul, C. H. Crombie, H. C. Foster, John Fisher, A. W. Smith, W. P. Russell, W. Bennett, and J. Waters were among the arrivals from the North Island by the steamer express yesterday morning. Mr B. L. Dallard (Under-Secretary for Justice), who has been on a visit to Invercargill and Ashburton .accompanying the Minister for Justice (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason), left for Wellington last evening by the steamer express. Dr. James Lyon (Birmingham) will be the examiner at the practical examinations of the Trinity College of Music, London, which will be held in Christchurch in September.
