MR A. W. BEAVEN’S TOUR ABROAD
MANUFACTURERS SAY FAREWELL The council of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association met at morning tea yesterday to say farewell to Mr A. W. Beaven, of Andrews and Beaven, Ltd., who is shortly leaving Christchurch on a tour of England and the Continent. . Mr H. B. Duckworth, the president, extended the association’s best wishes to Mr and Mrs Beaven for a successful trip. He said that Mr Beaven had been one of the founders of the old Canterbury Industrial Association, which had later become incorporated into the Canterbury Manufacturers Association, and was to be remembered for his outstanding pioneering work in both the interests of industry and Christchurch generally. Mr S. L. Wright, vice-president of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, endorsed the remarks made by Mr Duckworth. Mr Denys Hoare also referred to Mr Beaven’s services to industry. Mr H. T. Bailey (officer in charge of the Labour Department) said that Mr Beaven’s actions in all matters dealing with employer and employee relations commanded admiration and should be regarded as fine precedents in the future administration of industry. Mr Beaven, in reply, said that he considered that the businessmen of today were worthily upholding the traditions established in the past and playing their part in the wider economic development of the .Dominion.
