CHRISTCHURCH TECHNICAL COLLEGE

-—+ ATTENDANCES BIGGER THAN LAST YEAR The Christchurch Technical High School, at its two schools, one in the city and the other at Papanui, had a total roll number for the first term of this year of 3325 pupils, compared witn 3236 for the first term last year. Pupils in the . evening classes number 1899, and at the technical high schools 1426. These figures were reported to a meeting of the board last night by the principal, Dr. D. E. Hansen. The meeting received with thanks a donation from the Canterbury Master Plumbers’ Union of Employers. It was decided to congratulate a former pupil of the school, Mr A. T. Roberts, on winning the gold medal for the highest marks in New Zealandin the electrical wiremen’s test. The medal has been gained by a pupil of the college three times in the last four years. Those present were Mr T. W. West (in the chair), Messrs T. Nuttall, G. Shipley, A. H. Scales, Mrs M. Opie, Messrs W. T. Langley, D. Rowse, and J. H. Hurley. • A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of Mr P. S. Cannon, head of the engineering department of the college, who died recently, was carried. Glowing tributes were paid to Mr Cannon’s work for the college in the 23 years he had been on its staff.
