HOTELS IN CITY
, ♦ “ CONDUCT QUITE SATISFACTORY ” POLICE REPORT TO COMMITTEE The conduct of the hotels in the Christchurch district for the last year had been quite satisfactory, and generally speaking all premises were kept in first-class order, stated Inspector H. Martin, of the Central Police Station. in a report presented to the annual meeting of the Christchurch Licensing Committee yesterday. During the. year there had been 14 convictions under the Licensing Acts against licensees of 11 hotels, and eight convictions against barmen of seven hotels, continued the report. These convictions were almost identical with those recorded last year. There had been 66 convictions against persons for being found at 19 hotels after hours, and this was a good deal better than the 97 convictions recorded last year. “On my inspection of all licensed premises in April of .this year, it was found necessary to insist on minor improvements at about 35 per cent, of the hotels,” said the inspector.
