. ♦ OFFICIAL FORECASTS ITHE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, June 3. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office. Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as' follows: Variable winds, with westerlies or souli'-westerlies predominating. Weather changeable and with some scattered rains. Temperatures rather cooler. Seas, slight to moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is;— Winds variable, with southwesterlies predominating. Weather changeable and with occasional rain. Temperatures rather cooler. Seas moderate. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:— Weather mainly fair to fine in the northern half of the North Island; elsewhere cloudy to overcast, and scattered rains developing. More widespread rain and colder temperatures probable before Monday. ’ A shallow depression is crossing the Dominion today, and a secondary is following it across the South Tasman. An anti-cyclone covers Australia, but a cyclonic depression appears to be developing over the north-west Tasman. Winds—Northerlies predominating at first_ north of Hokitika and Banks Peninsula, but west to south thence southwards, and gradually extending over most of the Dominion; force mainly light to moderate, but freshening. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rather rough to rough in Foveaux Strait and rising at times.in the Cook Strait area; otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate but freshening south to south-east winds in the northern portion, and west to south in the southern. Seas moderate but rising. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine but overcast. A fresh south-westerly breeze blew in the afternoon. The maximum temperature during the day was 55.1 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was clear, and a light southwesterly wind was blowing. The temperature was 42 degrees, and the barometer, which was falling slowly, registered 30.01 inches. The barometer fell slightly, the reading at 5 p.m. being 30.10 inches. Wellington—Yesterday was cloudy, but otherwise fine and pleasant. The minimum temperature on Thursday night was 40.0 degrees, and the maximum yesterday 57.1. At 3 p.m. the barometer registered 30.009 inches.
