CRIME AS ENTERTAINMENT

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —I want to protest against the dramatising of one of the foulest of murders, as was done in “the Coronets of England” series given on the radio last Saturday night. I do not remember when I have heard anything at once so realistic and yet which trampled down so horribly (with almost fiendish cunning) all the finest part of Man’s nature. When, wellprimed with alcohol the fallen man is ready for his ghastly task, there comes that final touch of art made hideous—the trusting, kindly prayer, so quickly followed by the coldblooded murder of the gentle person who offers it—Yours, etc., F. T. MILES. Ashburton, June 1. 1938.
