WRESTLING
♦ rTBLOMFIELD TO ffißT " KENNEDY MATCH IN CHRISTCHURCH ON WEDNESDAY The type of wrestling that New Zealand followers enjoy is the type that has made “Lofty"' Blomfield the best attraction the sport In this country has known. Consequently the biggest crowds are those which gather at Blomfield’s matches, and when he is matched with an opponent who follows his own style it is frequently impossible to find accommodation for all the would-be spectators. Such an occasion will arise at Christchurch next Wednesday night when Blomfield will be here to meet the aggressive “Irish’" Jack Kennedy. The latter is a wrestler of whom the local public has heard much but has yet to see in action. Kennedy, who wa* reared on a ranch in Texas, was introduced to wrestling while at college, and subsequently had a year’s tuition from Farmer Burns before turning professional. He is an extremely versatile wrestler, having an almost endless variety of attacking and defensive holds, and his immense strength and ruggedness make him a highly formidable proposition. Notable among his victims is Yvon Robert, the well-known Canadian wrestler, and another of his outstanding successes wa* gained at the expense of Stanley Pinto, whom New Zealanders have good cause to remember as an extremely tough wrestler. Against Pinto, Kennedy had a chance to display the qualities which may be calculated to serve him well against Blomfield, such as ability to use a forearm smash and recover after having one used on himself. He and Blomfield can be depended upon to give the crowd a spectacular match.
