* ‘ LORRY RUNS DOWN BANK TWO PASSENGERS INJURED (PBKS9 ASSOCIATION TELEGEAU.) TAIHAPE, May 28, A Rangitikei County Council motorlorry, containing four council employees, went over a bank on the Taoroa road, five miles from Utiku, yesterday. The accident occurred while the lorry was passing a school bus, and two men were injured, one seriously. Robert Hardy, of Ohotu, suffered a fractured pelvis, and is in a serious condition. S. Maper, of Utiku, suffered a broken collarbone. Children travelling in the school bus saw the I6rry leave the road and told .the driver, who took the injured men to hospital. Fatal injuries were suffered by a returned soldier, Ernest James Jones, aged 44, of Grey Lynn, when he was knocked down by a motor-car on Saturday night. FOOTBALLER INJURED Graham Pearce Orchard, aged 23, the captain of the Old Boys fourthgrade Rugby football team, suffered concussion in a game at South Hagley Park on Saturday. He was admitted to hospital at 4.25 and his condition is satisfactory. KNOCKED OFF BICYCLE Joseph Elliott, an elderly man, of 50 Jeffreys road, was knocked off his bicycle at the Bryndwr railway crossing by a motor-car last night. He was admitted to hospital at 9 p.m. suffering from head injuries. His condition is serious.
