NEW ZEALAND AIRMAN’S DEATH

ACCIDENT IN ENGLAND

irmut tigocuTioi tbleobai*.*

DUNEDIN, April 29. Colin Calder Byar, the New Zealander who was trapped in the cabin of his aeroplane when it crashed in Surrey, England, on Tuesday last, died two days later from head injuries he received. The crash was a serious one, and it took 12 policemen to extricate him and his New Zealand friend, Ernest Ratcliffe, from the wreckage. Byar's home was in Dunedin, and he was a son of Mrs Mary Byar, of Belleknowes, and of the late Mr William Price Byar, of Little River. Educated at Otago's Boys' High School, he obtained his A licence while still at school, and was one of the youngest and most promising pilots to be trained by the Otago Aero Club. Shortly after leaving school he went to England, and gained a short term commission in the Royal Air Force. He was 25 years of age when the accident occurred.
