ROTATION EMPLOYMENT

*0 THE EDITOB 01 THE PRESS. Sir,—Would you kindly grant space to ventilate a grievance existing among the unemployed men regarding the granting of extra work to a certain section of men after they have finished their quota of four months? It appears that a number of men are again selected for a further two months' work by what is termed a ballot. This method does not appear to be the fairest, in view of the fact that prominent Labour supporters are prominent in obtaining extra work under this so-r called ballot system. I am at a loss to understand why each man cannot be given, say, two extra weeks' work when his four months' quota has ex* pired, thus shutting the door against the ill-feeling which now exists, and

proving to all that the Labour Government is not providing extra work for its own supporters.—Yours, etc., BE FAIR. April 28, 1938. [When this letter was referred to him the District Employment Officer (Mr M. Ross) said: 'Extra work is definitely allotted by ballot, and the political views of the men have no bearing on the selection."]
