ELECTRICITY CHARGES

TO THB EDITOR 0? THB PRESS. Sir,— May I direct attention again to the grave injustice inflicted on the large section of electricity users, the retail shops, by excessive charges for shop lighting. The figures quoted be-, low are from recent bills of the Municipal Electricity Department. 500 Units for shop lighting, £5 9s 8d; 500 units for domestic purposes, £1 10s 2d; 500 units for industrial purposes, £1 8s lOd. Shop lighting is used nearly all day, and many windows are lighted up at night seven days a week, yet we nave to pay nearly 400 per cent, more than either the domestic consumer using a stove always on the peak load, or the industrial or factory consumer working five days a week. In view of the coming election 1 would urge all retailers to vote only for the candidates who will definitely promise to have this anomaly promptly adjusted.—Yours, etc., R. B. OWEN. .
