Dr. and Mrs Lionel Cordery (Fendalton road) have returned from a visit to the West Coast. Miss Gwen McKay (St. Martins), who is spending a holiday at Mount Grey, will enter Christchurch Hospital as a trainee in May. Mrs Win. Bennett and her small son (North Loburn) are staying with Mrs J. Buchanan (Auckland), formerly of Hokitika, will leave on May 10 for a visit to England. Dr. J. G. Macdonald and Mrs Macdonald (Invercargill) will arrive tomorrow in Christchurch. They will join the Port Denison at Lyttelton for a holiday visit to England. This week Mrs Macdonald, who is a granddaughter of the late Archdeacon Mathias of Christchurch, was entertained at tea by the garden circle of the Southland Women’s Club, of which she is chairwoman, and presented with a diary. Miss Whiskard, daughter of Sir Geoffrey Whiskard, British High Commissioner in Australia, left for England from Wellington by the Tamaroa this week. Miss Fay Compton and the members of her company left Wellington by the Awatea on Tuesday night en route for Brisbane. Madame Nihotte (Wellington), wife of the Consul for Belgium, left' this week by the Awatea lor Australia, where she will Join her husband, who is stationed temporarily in Sydney. , Mrs.Lce Martin and her daughter will leave here on Sunday night to connect with the Aorangi for Australia. Mrs H. J. JjJeadel (Paparoa street), and her daughter, Mrs L. H. Davison,- of North Canterbury, are the guests of Mrs R. A. Hamerton, Kelburn, Wellington. Mr and Mrs C. J. Brodrlck (Invercargill),'who have been spending the Easter holidays in Christchurch and visiting,relatives in North Canterbury, returned home by motor yesterday. Miss F. L. Cooper, secretary of the Home Industries Competitive Section of the New Zealand Industries Fair, reports that the compilation of the schedule for this section has now'been completed and that schedules will be available next week. Many new classes have been introduced this year, and it is hoped that it will be possible to make even better arrangements for the display of entries in the arts and crafts section.

IN AID OP St. SAVIOURS ORPHANAGES

The annual ball in aid of the funds of St. Saviour’s orphanages, held alternately at HawaTdeh and Waikarl, was held in the Walkari Hall on Wednesday evening. There was a good attendance from both districts, and a satisfactory profit was made. Music was played by Mr T. Lawlor’s orchestra, and extras by Mrs W. Traill. Messrs W, Traill and R..E. Foster were* masters of ceremonies. The Rev. H, M. CoCks, oh behalf of the orphanages, thanked all who had worked for the success of the ball. Among those present were Mr and Mrs B. L.
