CANTERBURY CALEDONIAN SOCIETY
OPENING OF SEASON
The Canterbury Caledonian Society’* season opened with a successful concert. There was an attendance of about 700. The president (Mr C. S. Thomas) welcomed the members. With him on the platform were Messrs R. H. Rankin and G. Sey (vice-presi-dents), and J. A. Meikle (director*. Eighteen new members were elected.
The programme for the evening was in the hands of the president and Mr K. Kennedy, and comprised the following itemsr—Selections, society’s Pip* Band; seann triubhais, Misses Greta Archer and Joan Russell; instrumental trio. Misses Wilson and Beck; song, Mr A. Macdonald; recitation. Miss L Strutbers; Highland fling. Misses Agnes Russell and Gwenneth Riches; song. Mrs Ledshaip; comet solo, Mr W. Stephenson; song. Mr A. Macdonald; Highland reel. Misses Greta Archer, Joan Russell. Agnes Rusgelh and Gwenneth Riches. A play entitled “Roby Aforesaid,” was played by boy* from St. Andrew’s College. ■ The society’s official accompanist (Mr G. C. Russell) was at the piano, and after the concert Mr George Branford’s orchestra played music for dancing.
