ITHE PRESS Special Service,) WELLINGTON, April 28, 1 The weather forecast for Canterbury *nd Marlborough, Issued at 5 p.m, by the Meteorological Office, Wellington and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is 'as follows:

1 . v y*»We w»d mainly moderate [ winds, with west to south-west predominating. Weather dull and in places misty, with some rain. Temperatures becoming cooler 1 Seas slight to moderate.

WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is;— 1

Winds turning to westerlies 0 r south-westerlies; force moderate to strong. Weather overcast, and with heavy rain at first, but later changeable, and with Intermittent rain. Temperatures becoming cooler. Seas moderate to rather rough.

DOMINION The Dominion forecast is;—

Weather cloudy to overcast, and In places misty, with general rain and some heavy falls in the central provinces. Temperatures mild, but gradually becoming cooler. A rather deep depression is crossing New Zealand, the lowest pressure now being west of Cook Strait. Pressure has risen somewhat over south-eastern Australia, but several secondary depressions appear to he following the main one.

Winds—Moderate to strong westerlies to south-westerlies in the far north, and gradually extending southwards. variable, with south-west to north-west predominating from Canterbury southwards, elsewhere moderate to strong northerlies, to gales changing to westerlies or southerlies to-morrow.

Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rough north of Farewell Spit and East Cape, elsewhere slight to moderate, but rising on the west coast of the South Island.

Eastern Tasman Sea—South-west to •westerly winds, light to moderate mainly, but freshening at times. Seas moderate to rather rough.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

The weather In Christchurch was overcast and warm yesterday, and steady rain fell last night. A light north-easterly breeze blew In the morning, and a light easterly later in the day. The maximum temperature was 59.8 degrees.

Auckland—The weather was overcast with heavy showers during the afternoon. A strong north-easterly wind changed to north-west In the evening. Temperatures were mild, the maximum being 71. degrees. The barometer fell sharply during the afternoon, but at S p,m, registered 29.99 in and was rising.

Wellington—The weather was dull and misty with drizzling rain till 7 ■£*>•» when the sky gradually cleared. The remainder of the morning was Beautifully fine and mild. In the afternoon the sky again became overcast and threatening. A light breeze Blew from the north. The maximum temperature was 67.1 degrees. At 3 IMP. the barometer read 29.661 in.
