POLICE ESCORT RECORD BREAKER

Recently, an American test driver drove a new model car from Los Angeles to New York in the record time of two days and four hours. It is stated that the driver obeyed all the traffic laws, and was escorted through many of the cities along the route by motor-cycle police. The run was nonstop except for fuel replenishments, and one 55 minutes’ halt in Oklahoma for mechanical adjustments. The greatest difficulty the driver experienced was to adjust himself to the sudden climatic change, when, within ,an hour, he drove from the floor of Death Valley, 117 feet below sealevel, to 5800 feet above, at Prescott, Arizona. Fuel consumption ranged between 18 and 22 miles a - gallon over the whole run.
