THEFT AS SERVANT OF GOVERNMENT
SAVINGS BANK CLERK SENTENCED
(FBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON. April 28. Prisoners were sentenced by the Hon. Mr Justice Reed as follows: — George Alfred James Bell, aged 45, a Post Office Savings Bank clerk, two charges of theft as a servant of the Government and five of forgery—two years’ imprisonment with hard labour. Leslie George Jacobs, aged 33. a painter, indecent assault charges—three years’ imprisonment with hard labour. His Honour said the prisoner would have to be sent away for a long period for the, protection of young children. • George Lassells Amies, aged 17, was remanded for sentence until Monday on three charges of breaking and entering and theft. His Honour said he had fully intended to send the boy to a Borstal institution because he thought it necessary for him to be disciplined. but after hearing counsel he would consider the matter further. Counsel had stated that the proceeds had gone to enable the boy to. indulge in his hobby of radio-making. He came from a good home, and his parents had no reason to suspect him of anv tendency towards the crimes com-
