STUDENTS’ UNPAID SUBSCRIPTIONS

ACCOUNTANT SOCIETY’S REPORT "I am gratified at the improved attendances and trust they will continue, but the formidable list of unpaid subscriptions startles me. This should not be. The local branch of the New Zealand Society of Accountants and others assist us financially, and this help may toe withdrawn if students fail to meet their own responsibilities,” states the president, Mr L. L. Smith, in his report which will be presented to the annual meeting of the Christchurch Accountant Students’ Society. The total number of active members in the society is given as 145. Nominations during the year amounted to 25—the best for some years. There was a large increase in the number attending meetings, the average for the 1937 season being 45, as compared with 30 for the preceding season. A successful innovation during the seapon was the essay competition, the report says. The subject was “Rationalisation of Industry with special reference to the accountancy aspect. ’ The judge, Mr C. W. Evans, in commenting on the five essays submitted, expressed disappointment at the standard, but commented upon the amount of work and diligent effort shown by the competitors. He placed Miss Goodrlck and Mr J. C. Wornall first and second respectively.
