THEFT OF CHEQUE
* —; LABOURER SENT TO GAOL (press association telegram.) PALMERSTON N., April 6. A sentence of six months’ imprisonment with hard labour was imposed on Jack Harry Payne, aged 31, a labourer, when he pleaded guilty before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., to stealing a cheque for £7 from a whare at Waipukurau. The police stated that the accused had a list of previous convictions.
