j The Government’s Success
The elections in Upper and Lower Egypt last week gave an overwhelming majority to the Government candidates. In both elections the Wafdists were at the bottom of the list and far below the next party’s figures. At Minia, in Lower Egypt, «the
families of opposing candidates fought, and six persons were killed. In other districts there were three deaths. Two former Ministers, Nahas Pasha and Ebeid Pasha, were defeated and have refused Senatorships.
Mr Broadbent The Australian airman, Mr H. F. Broadbent, proposes to fly from Darwin to England in an attempt to eclipse Miss Jean Batten’s solo flight record of 5 days 18 hours. A Prince Resigns
Prince Francis 1, aged 84, has renounced the throne of Liechtenstein in favour of Prince Francis Josef, aged 31. Liechtenstein is a small independent principality situated between Austria and Switzerland. The reigning family originated in the twelfth century and traces its descent through free barons, who in 1608 became princes of Liechtenstein. The principality has a population of 10,000, and its customs and postal services are administered by Switzerland. The industries are largely agricultural. Maori Choir in London
The King and • Queen received the members of the Waiata Maori party who are at present on a visit to Britain. The party consists of a male and female choir.
The members'were presented to the King by the chief, ■Piahama, who greeted the King and Queem and sang in Maori to them.
