CARTAGE RATES
♦ CONFERENCE OF CARRIERS AT LEESTON A conference lasting all day and until late at night was held at Leeston between representatives of carriers from the districts from Waipara to the Rangitata. The object of the meeting was to secure uniformity of rates. Branches of the Road Transport Alliance represented were Rangiora, Banks Peninsula, Springs, Ellesmere, Malvern, and Ashburton. Mr J. B. Cullen, of Ashburton, presided. The No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr T. H. Langford) addressed the delegates at the opening of the conference on the necessity of securing uniformity in the prices charged for cartage work. A satisfactory arrangement was reached, and the schedule will shortly be submitted to representatives of farmers in the area.
