<t> GERMAN CHURCHES URGE SUPPORT UNITED FOR FIRST TIME IN ONE CAUSE (Received April 5, 2 p.m.) BERLIN, April 4. Representatives of the Evangelical churches have issued an election proclamation which states; “The Church expects every Evangelical German to do his duty on April 10, gladly and full of thankfulness.”
The Church thanks Herr Hitler for bringing about the miracle of a greater Germany, which was the age-old dream of Germans. Observers point out that for the first time for years the Evangelical churches are united in one cause.
PLEBISCITE BALLOT AT SYDNEY AUSTRIANS’ UNANIMOUS VOTE FOR UNION SYDNEY, April 5. The German Consul-General (Dr. Asmiss) stated that 250 Germans and 24 Austrians voted on board the German ship Neckar outside the three-mile limit yesterday. The votes were counted separately, and showed that 248 Germans voted in the affirmative, with the Austrians returning a unanimous vote in favour of the union.
JOURNALIST’S EXPULSION FROM AUSTRIA BRITISH ATTITUDE STATED (BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS.) RUGBY, April 4. In answer to a question in the House of Commons about the expulsion from Austria of Mr G. E. R. Gedye, the British journalist, Mr R. A. Butler (Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs) said that Mr Gedye was expelled because of an article about the number of persons imprisoned in Austria, which the German authorities considered untrue. Saying that a foreign State had the right to expel foreign nationals, Mr Butler added that the British Ambassador in Berlin had been instructed to express Britain’s concern at the manner in which the right had been exercised respecting a British journalist of established .reputation and high qualifications. Mr Butler had no information that other British journalists had been expelled.
