SOCIAL AND PERSONAL

Mrs F. Banks, Christchurch, arrived yesterday to stay with Mrs E. G. Kerr, “Ardgour,” Sealy street. Miss Diana Smythe (Bidwill street) and Miss Belle Morton (Beverley road) have left to spend a few days at “Sundrum,” Woodbury. Mr and Mrs Waterston (Tauranga), who were the guests of Mr and Mrs C. E. Torlesse (Park lane), left on Monday for Christchurch. Misses Janet and Molly Orbell (“Pentlow”), returned on Monday from a short visit to Mrs Bernard Thomas, Omarama.

Miss Audrey Ormond (Hawke’s Bay), who has been visiting Christchurch, is now the guest of her sister, Mrs Jock Acland, Mount Peel. Mrs Neill Rattray (Waimate) arrived yesterday to stay with Mrs H. SinclairThomson, Hampton House, Le Cren’s terrace.

BRIDGE PARTY

Many guests attended a successful bridge party held last night in the women’s room of the Canterbury College Hall, . Mrs S. Hales was the winner of a prize for the highest score. CRIPPLED CHILDREN SOCIETY

MEETING OF COMMITTEE

Mrs Cecil Wood presided at a meeting of the general committee of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society (Canterbury and Westland), Inc. The report of the secretary showed that 207 children were under the care of the society and 26 new cases had been registered with the society since the beginning of the year. The membership of the society remains practically stationary, although there has been an increase oi two life members. The society acknowledges with thanks donations from: Girl guides, £2 ss; "Aunt Pat,” 3YA children’s session, £ll 16s Bd, custodian of Provincial Council Chambers, £2 Is 2d; Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union—Pigeon Bay branch £l, Little River branch £1 Is; Mr J. Allan, 4s; Good Companions’ Club, £l. Satisfaction was expressed at the commencement of school classes at the Public Hospital, and it was decided to give whatever assistance was necessary. The question of transport for crippled children from their homes to the hospital for treatment was given .consideration, and it was decided to make an appeal to all members of the society for the use of their cars in this'connexion.
