WELLINGTON, March 22

The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows:

WEST COAST The forepast for the West Coast of the South Island is;— Light to fresh east to north-east winds. Weather fine, with cool but rising temperatures. Seas slight to moderate.

DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:—

Weather cloudy and with scattered showers at first over much of the North Island, tind especially between Cook Strait , and East Cape, but soon improving; elsewhere .fair to fine. Temperatures cool. A rather intense anti-cyclone covers the South Tasman and Southern New Zealand, with the highest pressure east of the South Island.

Winds —South-easterlies at first from Nelson and Marlborough northwards, but backing.gradually to the east and north-east, and north-easterlies prevailing elsewhere; force strong at first in parts of the Cook Strait area, but otherwise light to moderate. Seas rather rough to rough about Cook Strait, but moderating, and elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea —Light to moderate east to north winds and smooth to moderate seas.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

The weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine, but oVercast in the morning and sunny late in the afternoon, A light south-west wind blew early in the day, and there was a moderate breeze from the north-east in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 60.8 degrees.

At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was cloudy and a strong east wind was blowing. The temperature was 56 degrees, and the barometer was steady at 30.40 inches.

Auckland—Humid weather, with clouds and a light northerly wind, ruled 'during yesterday, the maximum temperature being 81 degrees. The barometer was high and steady, ana the reading at 5 p.m. was 30.25 inches. Wellington- I —The weather yesterday was overcast and threatening; in the morning, but finer in the afternoon, with brief intervals of sunshine and a cold south-easterly breeze. The minimum temperature on Monday night was 50.10 degrees and the maximum yesterday 60.9.’ At 3.30 p.m. the barometer registered 30.357 inches. Dunedin —There was a cold northeasterly breeze of moderate strength, and this, combined with an overcast sky for most of the day, kept the maximum temperature down to 58 degrees. The barometer remained fairly steady about 29.95 inches.
