OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON. March 6. The weather forecast for Canterbury and, Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with he 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: — A moderate to fresh south-west-erly wind, decreasing, and later backing to northerly. Weather mainly fair to cloudy, with cool temperatures. Seas moderate, with a southerly swell. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of* the South Island is:— Moderate and variable winds, with northerly soon predominating. Weather fine at first, but cloud gradually increasing, and later rain develop ug. Seas moderate. DOMINION The following is the Dominion forecast; — Still squally and changeable with occasional showers in eastern districts, between Bank’s Peninsula and East Cape, but gradually Improving; elsewhere fair to fine, but later becoming unsettled in the far south. Temperatures cold. Pressure has risen rapidly oven the Dominion under the influence of a rather intense anti-cyclone, which Is advancing from the Central Tasman Sea. Winds—Southerly from Canterbury northwards, moderate to strong generally and still reaching gale force in places between Cook Strait and East Cape, but gradually decreasing. Light to moderate and variable winds in Otago and Southland, but a northerly soon predominating and freshening. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Very rough betwen East Cape and Banks Peninsula, and rough but decreasing north of Farewell Spit. Elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea —A moderate to fresh southerly wind and moderate seas over the northern portion. A moderate southwesterly to westerly wind and slight to moderate seas in the southern portion. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch during the week-end was changeable. After a dull morning on Saturday the afternoon was sunny and warm. A change occurred at night, when there was rain and a violent wind. There was a little light rain yesterday morning, and the day was mostly dull and cool. A southerly wind was blowing both on Saturday and yesterday. The inside minimum temperature yesterday war 47.9 degrees, and on Saturday 53.3 degrees. At J o’clock this morning the sky was clear and a easterly wind was blowing- The temperature was 53 degrees. The barometer, falling, stood at 30.10 inches. Some heavy showers fell during the night. The sky was overcast on Sunday morning, but it cleared later, and the afternoon was pleasantly fine, with a light southerly breeze.
