SUMNER CLUB The annual competitions of the Sumner Life Saving Club were held in good conditions yesterday afternoon. There was a warm sun and very little surf. The officials were: Judges: Messrs L McK. Norrie and L. Sutherland: timekeepers, Messrs W. Woods and S. K. Bassett. The results were as follows: Junior Cup (single-handed rescue event, for a cup presented by Mr W. H. Nicholson) —V. Johnson X, R. O. Meyer 2,- J. Johnson 3. Newburgh Cup (senior single-handed rescue event, for a cup presented by Mr T. Newburgh, the Mayor of Sumner) —V. J. McPhail 1, G. S. Cooper 2, W. Nicholson 3. Mayoral Cup (four-man reel event) —G. S Cooper (belt), L. Chapman (reel), V. Johnson (line), 1; O. G. Wood (belt), H. Kearney (reel), W. Nicholson (line), W. A. Hearn (belt), G. Dalzell (reel), JReid (line). 3. At the conclusion of the events the cups were presented by the president, Mr S. K. Bassett. He complimented the junior members on the excellence of their performance, referring especially to the performance of W. Nicholson, who, swimming breaststroke, kept on better than even terms with the senior members in the single-handed rescue event.
