WHITE BUTTERFLIES
TO XHK EDIXOB OF THE PEESS. Sir,—A letter appeared in “The Press” last Friday asking for information as to where white butterflies lay up in cold weather so that they can be destroyed. Being no authority on the subject, I cannot answer if they live to reach cold weather, or leave their progeny in another form to work further havoc, but at the present, time I know there are millions upon millions of them on the Waimarino Plains on the northern side of Taihape. Going through this country last week by car. it was like going through a snowstorm; the front of the radiator was full of them; in fact nothing of this part was showing but white butterflies. I would suggest an aeroplane or two spraying poisoned vapour over this district would do an immense amount of good in destroying them. —Yours, etc., WORTHWHILE. March 3, 1938.
