—♦ — CRICKET KAIKOURA BEATS ANISEED, The Kaikoura Cricket Club recently played a match against a team from Aniseed on the Takahanga Domain, Kaikoura, the home team winning by 262 runs to 128. Aniseed made 128 runs (O'Byrne 51, Beard 29, Forter 15, Connolly 14) and bowling for Kaikoura, May took four wickets for 16 runs and Read four for 30. Kaikoura made 262 (Brittenden 49, Comer 49, McLennan 33, May 26, Pratt 25). Bowling for Aniseed, Harris took two for 11, PERSONAL NOTES PREBBLETON Mrs J. Crozier, who has been visiting her mother. Mrs G. Tod, Station road, Prebblcton, has returned to Papanui. Mrs J. Alderson has returned to Waddington, after a visit to her aunt, Mrs H. Brooks, at Prebbleton. MORE THAN £7l FOR KARITANE FUND ELLESMERE BRANCH OF PLUNKET SOCIETY A grant of £2O to the Karitane Hospital extension fund was made at a meeting of the EUesmere branch oX the Plunket Society held on Thursday. Mrs J. Coe presided. This brings the EUesmere district total for the fund up to £7l 10s 3d. Keen regret was expressed at the death of Sir Truby'King, founder of the Plunket Society, and a motion of sympathy was carried. It was decided to hold the annual poppy day appeal in the interests of returned soldiers at Leeston on April 8. Representatives from the district Women's Institutes and the society will meet at Leeston on March 21 to make arrangements. . , Dates were selected for the society s annual meeting and ball. RAINFALL IN FEBRUARY MORE THAN TWO INCHES AT KAIKOURA Rain fell at Kaikoura on eight days during February, the total fall being 244 inches. Sixty points were recorded on February 4. In the same month last year, the rainfall was 2.10 inches, and there were 14 wet days. Seventy points fell on February 14 1937. So far this year, 5.98 inches of -ain has fallen, compared with 3.19 ; nches in the corresponding period Oi 1937. PENINSULA CRICKET MATCH The following team has been selected to represent the Akaroa Club in the match against Wainui Club, at Wainui; to-day:—T. Massfield. J. Masefield, R. T. Masefield, T. MARSHLAND SPORTS CLUB | The offer of the Plunket Society to undertake the catering at the Marshland Sports Club's sports next Saturday was accepted at a meeting of the club's committee. Mr Monk presided. Arrangements for the sports were reported to be well in hand. Several additional trophies have been received.
