AMERICAN CRUISER AT AUCKLAND

♦ STAY OF SEVERAL DAYS CrItESS ASSOCIATION T*LEGRAIO AUCKLAND, March C Greeted by dull skies and misty rain, the United States heavy cruiser Louisville arrived in Auckland shortly after mid-day from Australian ports, firing a salute as she passed the north head. There was a crowd of several hundreds to welcome the cruiser at the wharfside. Soon after the cruiser berthed her commander, Captain R. W. Mathewson, was called on by the United States consul at Auckland, Mr J. Groensinger, and naval and military authorities. Captain Mathewson subsequently called on the chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, the Hon. T. Bloodworth, and the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis. Officers and men have a large programme of entertainment ahead before the ship sails for Tahiti on Wednesday next. A State luncheon will be given by the Government at the Grand Hotel on Monday. The cruiser is expected to be open to the public for inspection during her stay. • j
