CLASSIFIED LIST OF ITEMS AMENDMENTS MADE TO DUTIES INCREASED RATES ON FOOTWEAR (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, February 28. * The full text of the statement on the new tariff amendment is as follows: “Orders-in-Council have been passed bringing into force on and from March ,1, 1938. a number of amendments to the duties at present payable in respect of goods imported from Australia and Canada, and also to the general tariff rates. The duty on footwear under the British preferential tariff, and on South African and Australian wines, other than sparkling, have also been amended. The present and amended duties insofar as they apply to Australia, Canada,- and the general tariff are set out in the enclosed schedules. It will be noted that except in respect of footwear, the Canadian goods mentioned in the schedule will not be subject to surtax. “Footwear, item 196, is the only item In respect of which an alteration has been made in the rates of duty

under the British preferential tariff. The item as amended reads as follows; British pref. General tariff. tariff, per cent. , per cent.
