PSYCHOLOGIST PREDICTS NEW SYSTEM

“The civil war in Spain is a perfect example of what I term ‘anti-ism’ — the greatest destructive factor in the world to-day,” said Dr. Herbert Sut-

cliffe, English psychologist, mental analyst, and author in an interview last evening. This is his first visit to New Zealand after a world lecture tour occupying seven years. Dr. Sutcliffe has founded 21 organisations in England. America, Canada, China, and Australia, and they are known as "schools of radiant living.” His object is to build un a vital science and philosophy through studying and applying the physical, mental, and universal laws-

"The world to-day is suffering from fear which is gripping the vitals of every nation.” he said. “The fact that the emotion of fear, is playing havoc in the subconscious mind of the man in the street and the home has not yet been appreciated. Behind the present ‘disease’ of inferiority, which I believe is increasing, there are lurking the destructive conditions of hatred, anxiety, and distrust. These are built up through undue repression—the fear of being attacked and the necessity to protect. Once the latent cause is found and mastered and the laws of the universe of God and of human life are understood, the world will have the key to sanity and prosperity.” It was “antl-ism” that was destroying the world to-day for, if a man was an “anti-ite” he was against God and Nature. Spain, for instance, was a hot-bed of anti-ism. The so-called Communists were not Communists hUt anti-Fascists, while Fascists ahfik-Communlsts. Hence the cliief tOdt of all war was fear and all its. conA constants. All the intellect m the w/ift had failed to help the world in A./ double. There was a 'tremendous for mankind to realise that man’s protection was not self-sufficient. He must look to a universal law, or to God, for his protection. There was ample evidence of the failure of civilisation. It had not given the people health or happiness, said Dr. Sutcliffe. Asylums for the Insane were overcrowded and the people had not been taught the secret of radiant living. “My aim In life is to teach Christianity from a psychological point Of view. It is obvious that the world is shaping itself to .welcome a new civilisation and it seems to me that a characteristic of that new civilisation will be the displacement of the present system of economics and means Of existence.” . , . Dr, Sutcliffe intends to lecture in Christchurch, the first address of a series being on March 7.
