LABOUR PARTY AT NEW BRIGHTON
EIGHT SELECTED FOR COUNCIL
At a. special meeting of the New Brighton branch of the New Zealand Labour Party to discuss the question of the Mayoral and council elections, a resolution was carried: “That this branch does not contest the Mayoralty of New Brighton.” , - Eight candidates were selected to contest the council election, the names to be submitted to the Canterbury Labour Representation .Committee for endorsement. When tfye decision of, the meeting about the Mayoralty was known. Mr E. A. M. Leaver announced that he would contest the election as an independent. -• Mr J. Roberts, chairman of the Labour Representation Committee, presided, and with him were Messrs R. M. Macfariane (secretary), H. G. McCaw, G. Farms, the Rev. A. R. Martin, and Miss Mabel Howard (members of the executive).
