At a. special meeting of the New Brighton branch of the New Zealand Labour Party to discuss the question of the Mayoral and council elections, a resolution was carried: “That this branch does not contest the Mayoralty of New Brighton.” , - Eight candidates were selected to contest the council election, the names to be submitted to the Canterbury Labour Representation .Committee for endorsement.
