CADETS RECEIVE HONOURS

“THE PRESS” SHIELD FOR SHOOTING

PRESENTATION AT TECHNICAL COLLEGE "The Press” Shield for marksmanship. for South Island cadet corps, was presented by Colonel P. H. Bell, cer Commanding the Southern Military District, to the Christchurch Technical College Corps at Ensor’s road yesterday. This is the third year, and the second in succession, in whicn ine Technical College has won the shiem. Colonel Bell inspected the corps, in company with Dr. D. E. Hansen, Principal of the college, and Mr J. JVxCBride, head of the Papanui section of the college. After" the inspection. Colonel Bell addressed the cadets, he said that the college had won .. . ® shield in 1931, again 1936, and a third time in 1937. Two shields were presented by "The Press," one for the North Island, and one for the South. This year the Christchurch Technical College had scored highest points among 46 schools in New Zealand, and received an additional prize of £lO- - was a matter for great pride for the college, Colonel Bell said, that its points for marksmanship had shown steady improvement, and were last year at a very high level. The score in 1931 was 84 points; in 1936 9i points; and in 1937 94 points. Colonel Bell presented the shield to Under-Officer W. Robinson, in charge of the college team. He handed medals to the team, which consisted of UnderOfficer Robinson, Sergeants M. D, Hansen, G. W. Lucking, and J. cliffe. Corporals L. Pluck and L. H. ©swell, and Cadets R. Craw, K G. Brown, T. R. Davey, and M. Skelton A march past concluded the ceremony.
