I have heard so much about the beauty of your Dominion and the hospitality of your people." said Mr Andre bouquet, the new French Consul at Auckland, who arrived by the Wanganella, accompanied by his wife. He will succeed M. Edmond C. Meyer, who will return to France on leave. M. Pouquet, who is aged 42, has served in the French Legation at Tangier, and also at Smyrna, Turkey. For 13 years he has been attached to the Foreign Affairs Department, Pa*j£« and was decorated Knight of tne Legion of Honour. .„ Questioned about Mr R- A. Edens resignation, he said at any such could not affect the friendly rtK*p* t between France and Britain. „ "I like Mr Eden very much because of his true view of the European sußation, but maybe the efforts of jsx Chamberlain to ensure peace will succeed," he said.
