AUSTRIAN UNREST PERSISTS

Demonstration Follows Demonstration FATHERLAND FRONT VIES WITH NAZIS (UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION—COFTRIOHT.J (Received February 27, 9.25 p.m.) VIENNA, February 27. The Governmnet has announced that the offices of Provincial Leader of the Fatherland Front and Provincial Governor have been united in Styria, Salzburg, the Tyrol, Lower Austria, and Vorarlberg, which the Nazis regard as strengthening the Fatherland Front. However, HenHugo Jury, a notable Nazi, and a former commander of storm troops, has been appointed as the deputy of the Minister for the Interior (Dr. von Inquart) in the office of Controller of the Political Department of the Fatherland Front, which was established in order to conciliate the Nazis and incorporate them in the Fatherland Front.

"Swear with us that Austria shall live for ever" was the slogan of a torchlight procession of 35,000 persons, in one of the greatest demonstrations in Salzburg's history. The demonstrators marched to the very frontiers of Germany to show their loyalty to Austrian independence, completely eclipsing the Nazi procession of 15,000 persons on February 22. The success of the demonstration was mainly attributable to the enthusiasm created by Dr. Schuschnigg's speech, but also to the decrease in Nazi adherents because of the knowledge of Germany's economic plight. Tens of thousands of hands were lifted up in fealty to Austria, in response to the slogan. The Nazis dared not disturb the procession. Other messages state that the Graz University is closed, because of students' Nazi demonstrations, and that the Nazi movement in Styria and Carinthia threatens to develop into a landslide. The swastika has been hoisted on the Graz City Hall and Nazi enthusiasm is sweeping Upper Austria.

AUSTRIAN-ITALIAN RELATIONS

RUMOURS OF CHANGE DENIED BY DR. SCHVSCHyiIGG LONDON, February 25. A fuller report of the speech of the Austrian Chancellor, Dr. Kurt von Schuschnigg, shows that he denied rumours of a change in Italian and Austrian relations. Signor Mussolini, he said, had always shown complete understanding and sympathy with Austria and had aiways meticulously refrained from any interference with Austrian domestic affairs.
