TAXI LICENCES REFUSED
APPEALS TO MINISTER FOR TRANSPORT DECISIONS COMMUNICATED TO PARTIES The appeals of the owners of fexta in Christchurch who were declined licences by the Metropolitan Licensing Authority were dealt with on Friday by the Minister for Transport (the Hon. R. Semple).
"My decisions have now been communicated to the parties concerned and they will be released in a day or two," the Minister stated, when questioned by "The Press" on SaturA" new system of taxi control was introduced in Christchurch by. the ac; tion of the Minister in bringing taxi licensing under the Transport ing Actf This gave the Metropolitan Licensing Authority, which is appointed by the City Council, power to issue licences for taxis.. After hearing applications for licences, tne authority in November u «d_s| number of cab licences by 31. to the Minister against the decision or the authority were made by severalapplicants. The Mayor (MrJ.W. Bean- . land), who is chairman of the authority, said that there were several POH»f on which the appeals were basea. these including the reduction m licences and conditions.
