MUNICIPAL MILK SUPPLY
TO TUB EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—lf Mr Harold E. Fenton is the same Mr Fenton who has been selected to contest the election at next municipal election on behalf of the Labour Party he is making a bad start. He says: "Let me say that a municipal scheme would not be forced on to the people of Christchurch." Only by the casting vote of the Mayor has it been stopped on two occasions, and on each occasion Labour members voted in a block for it and without a vote of the people. Mr Fenton will find little sympathy from the people by saying the Labour members of the council were led astray by members of the Citizens' Association. Apparently Mr Fenton is quite prepared to follow the tactics of the Trades Hall bosses and adopt the principle that if a majority of Labour councillors are elected to the council it is taken by them as meaning a vote of the people to do as they like, spend as they like,' and destroy any businesses that stand in their way and in every way show they are an offshoot of the present Socialistic Government. His protestations of no connexion with the Trades Hall are on a par with Labour's disavowal of any connexion with the hooliganism at the Winton Street Hall. The example is set for them by Labour members of Parliament during debates in Parliament. If the electors of Christchurch put a majority of Labour candidates on the council at next election, that is their responsibility. The Citizens' Association has not as yet announced its attitude about the milk supply of the city, but I have no doubt that from the experience gained in collecting and debating evidence, they will, in the interest of all concerned, live up to their motto of "For the good of the city."—Yours, etc., H. BLISS. Heathcote, February 25, 1938.
