OFFICIAL FORECASTS

[THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, February 27. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 pm by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: — Winds between north-east and south-east predominating, light to moderate mainly, but freshening at times. Weather cloudy to overcast, and at times misty or foggy. Ram probable, with some heavy falls. Temperatures rather cooler. Seas slight to moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of ! the South Island is:— Winds variable, northerlies predominating at first, but later southerlies Weather dull and misty, with further rain and some heavy i falls. Temperatures somewhat cooler. Seas moderate to rather rough. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:— Weather unsettled, and rain probable in most districts, heavy in places, especially over the South Island; mist or fog in many places. Temperatures becoming somewhat cooler. An extensive and rather irregular depression still covers the Tasman, while the rise of pressure over south-eastern Anstralia has been slight. Winds—Northerlies prevailing at first, except in the far south, but a change to southerlies of south-easter-lies extending over most of the South Island: force mainly light to moderate, but squally at times about and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rather rough to rough at times in the Cook and Foveaux Strait areas and on tfc% West Coast of the South Island; otherWise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—\Vinds variable, with northerlies predominating in the central and northern portions, but a change to southerlies advancing from the west. Seas moderate, but increasing.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

The week-end in Christchurch was for the most part fine. Saturday was hot. with some bright sunshine and a moderate northerly wind. The weather yesterday morning was mild, but there was a change in the afternoon, when some light rain fell. The temperature became colder, and there was further light rain at night. The sky was overcast and there was a Southerly wind. The maximum temperature on Saturday was 72.2 degrees.

At 1 o'clock this morning the weather was misty and cloudy and there was a light easterly wind. The temperature was 64 degrees and the barometer, at 20.65 inches, was falling steadily.

IN OTHER PLACES Auckland—The weather was generally fine over the week-end. The sun shone brightly on both days. The weather was warm with a light variable breeze. The maximum tempera* ture was 82 degrees and the minimum 71 Pressure dropped slowly, the reacting being 29.85 inches at 5 p.m. Wellington—Saturday was misty and overcast with an occasional very light drizzle. After a temporary improvement, steady rain set in at about 5 p.m. and continued until about 10 p.rn. The sky theft gradually cleared and yesterday morning was fine. In the afternoon, however, it again clouded over and rain set in before 2 p.m. A squally north wind blew. On Saturday it was strong, but during yesterday it decreased. The minimum temperature on Saturday morning was 68,1 degrees, and the maximum was 69 2. Yesterday morning the minimum Was 66.1t and the maximum yesterday was 74.0. The barometer registered 29.69 inches. Dunedin—The weather on Saturday was fine, with intermittent sunshine. The temperature reached a maximum of 75 degrees and the barometer* after falling to ,29.60 inches, rose to 29.75 inches. There was a slight breeze from the south-west in the afternoon.
