HEALTH CAMP AT RANGIORA

CLOSING ON MONDAY

11M PROVEMENT SHOWN BY CHILDREN

The health camp, which is being held at the racecourse at Rangiora, will close on Monday, and the children will return to Christchurch, arriving at Victoria square at 10.30 a.m., according to information supplied by the secretary of the Christchurch executive <Mr J. J. Dunne). The camp will reopen on March ;> with an attendance of 55 boys.

"The girls have all shown a marked improvement since entering the camp," yaid Mr Dunne. "One girl lias increased in weight by 61b, and others up to 41b." Gifts of produce, eggs, and fruit were still being accepted at the camp for the benefit of the children, he added.

AKAROA

Mr T. E. McKenzie, Jolie Street. Akaroa, is in the Akaroa Hospital suffering from an injury to his foot. Mr L. J. Vangioni, Balguerie street, Akaroa, has returned from attending the New Zealand Libraries Conference in Nelson, where he represented the Akaroa Coronation Library. Mr C. Stewart, Duvauchelle, clerk to the Akaroa County Council, is away on his annual holiday, and attending the New Zealand Fire Brigades' Conference in New Plymouth. Mr Stewart is a past superintendent of the Akaroa Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Mr Roy Powell, of the Akaroa Post Office staff, and honorary secretary of the Akaroa Golf Club, has been notified of his transfer to the New Brighton Post Office.

VISIT TO RAILWAY CAMPS

MR E. P. MEACHEN, M.P.,

AT KAIKOURA

Mr E. P. Meachen, M.P. for the Wairau district, has been spending a few days addressing his constituents around Kaikoura. On Monday he spoke to the railway workers at the Conway, where Mr L. Newman presided, arid on Tuesday at Oaro, where Mr D. Poppelwell presided over an attendance of about 70. On Wednesday evening he spoke to the workers at Puketa camp, Kahautara. On Thursday Mr Meachen left Kaikoura on his return north, and he will continue his inspection of the various railway camps on his journey, and also give addresses to the workers.

CHARGE OF FIGHTING OUTSIDE HALL

TWO MEN FINED AT KAIKOURA

After a disturbance outside the Kaikoura Suburban Dance Hall on February 5, Patrick William Keehan, aged 22, of Kaikoura. and Gordon B. A. Hoadley. aged 25 years, of Kaikoura. appeared before Messrs James Boyd and James Davidson Justices of the Peace, at the Magistrate's Court at Kaikoura on Thursday, charged with fighting in a public place. Hoadley pleaded guilty and Keehan not guilty, and was represented by Mr J. W. Anderson. Constable McLcnnan stated that both accused were alleged to have been fighting after dancing in the hall.

Both accused were convicted and fined £3 and ordered to pay costs and witnesses' expenses.

The chairman of the Bench (Mr J. Davidson, J.P.) said as there had been considerable trouble outside the dance halls in Kaikoura in recent months, unless cases of this nature were stopped the Bench would have no alternative but to deal with each case severely, and he hoped that a warning would be taken.

WEEK-END CRICKET

The Rangiora Cricket Association's week-end fixtures will be the same as for last week-end, when games were postponed because of bad weather.

On March f) and 10 a junior representative cricket match will be played at Rangiora between Rangiora and Christchurch Suburban teams.

WAKAKURA AT AKAROA

The t.s.s. Wakakura called at Akaroa on Thursday afternoon on her way from the south, and. left for Lyttelton yesterday morning.
