A Doubtful Case Silver Ring has done a fair amount of galloping in the last month, but has invariably suffered from shoulder soreness after his efforts. There is therefore a doubt about his standing up to much racing. Racing at Oamaru The Railway Department has agreed to run a special passenger train to Oamaru on Saturday, March 26, the second day of the Oamaru Jockey Club's autumn meeting, returning after th races. A special horse train will leave Christchurch on Tuesday, March 2, at 9 a.m., and the return horse train will leave Oamaru at 9.40 a.m. on Sunday, March 27. Mr K. Austin, president of the club, has again invited visitors to the meeting and inspect the Elderslie Stud on March 24.

Interesting: Competition Two wins and a third recently took J. T. Jamieson to the head of the points score for trainers at Moorefield. His total is 22, against the 20 of R. Mead, P. Riddle, with 16, is not far away, and there is plenty of time for marked alterations before the close of the season. First money is again £75; second, £ls, and third, £lO. Serious Development

Cuddle broke down badly during ber final gallop at Wanganui, and at this stage of her career the trouble may be serious. L. J. Ellis, who was engaged to ride her in the Wanganui Cup, secured the last-minute ride on Catalogue, who was sent out favourite, but failed to race up to previous form.

T. R. George stated at Wanganui that, the trouble which had affected Cuddle is in her joints. It is extremely doubtful if the mare will be put into training again. The probability is that her owner, Mr R. J. Murphy, will decide to retire her. Doing- Well

Royal Limond, now trained by Mrs A. McDonald at Awapuni, is reported to be fairly well forward for his engagement at the Rangitikei meeting next week. A Serious Loss

Mrs McDonald had the misfortune this week to lose her Defoe—Princess Lobelia yearling filly as the result of the youngster kicking at a wire fence and breaking a leg. This yearling, for which Mrs McDonald refused an offer of 300 guineas, was a relation to Wiltshire and Dark Shadow, and was considered to be one of the best-looking Defoes in the district. It was found impossible to save the filly for stud purposes, and she had to be destroyed. Probable Favourite

Bright Wings was not produced at Waikato. This filly, who won both two-year-old races at Te Rapa in the spring and was subsequently in the money at Ellerslie, is in the Tuakau Stakes at the Franklin meeting next week. This contest is at set weights for two and three-year-olds that have not won a race of the value of £l5O to the winner, or races of a total value of £3OO. The two events won by Bright Wings were worth £l4O each to her and she gets in with a 51b penalty only. There is not much doubt that she will be favourite.
