LABOUR SPLIT IN N.S.W.

Party Organ Attacks Mr J. T. Lang

CAMPAIGN FOR STATE

ELECTION

(THTTM) PRBS9 iSSOCIATIOK—COPTRIOHT.)

(Received February 25, 10.40 p.m,

SYDNEY, February 25.

The "Labour Daily," which until last week was the weapon Mr J. T. Lang used for attacking his party and 'political opponents, has suddenly become his deadliest enemy in the hands of an industrial group. Its leading article columns to-day give broad hints to the electors on what should be done with the Leader of the Oposition at the coming election on March 26.

"Labour is now presented with its great opportunity. No longer will Mr Lang be an obstacle to the return of a Labour Government," the newspaper stated. "That bugbear politician is now to all intents and purposes just an ordinary candidate at the polls, and the electors of Auburn (Mr Lang's constituency) will see to it that he is relegated to a place where he can create no further mischief to the party. No longer should we have the cry, 'Lang is too big

a load to carry.' "

The Sydney Labour Council has adopted the "Labour Daily" as its official organ. The article in the "Labour Daily" follows the formation yesterday of a Labour faction which will oppose the official Labour Party at the State elections. Mr Lang will be opposed in his own constituency by Mr J. Hooker, representing the new party. The industrial unions represented in the new party expressed at yesterday's meeting their determination to concentrate all their force on compassing Mr Lang's downfall. They are led by Mr R. Heffron, a native of New Zealand, who was many years ago associated with the New Zealand Labour movement.
