OBITUARY MRS C. M. SINCOCK The death occurred on Thursday, at her home, Collingwod street, New Brighton, of Mrs Charlotte Maria Sincock, wife of Mr F. W. Sincock. Mrs Sincock was born in Devonshire, and came to New Zealand with her parents, Mr and Mrs G. Bolt. Her sarly days were spent in Christchurch, and in 1898 she married Mr Sincock. Most of her married life was spent at New Brighton, where for 30 years she had been actively connected with ihe Methodist Church. She also took a keen interest in the ladies' guild and the Women's Christian Temperance Union. • ji. ~ i. Mrs Sincock is survived by her husband, two sons, Messrs W. G. and E D. Sincock, and two daughters, Mrs M. W. Carter and Miss Lucy Sincock. There are five grandchildren. The funeral took place at the Bromley cemetery yesterday afternoon, the services at the house and the graveside being conducted by the Rev. F. Gardner Brown. The pall-bearers were Mrs Sincock's nephews, Messrs N, W. Carter, R. Pepperell, R. Buxton, and H. R. Green.

MRS SARAH GUNDY

Mrs Sarah Gundy, who died in Christchurch recentlv, was formerly an old resident of Akaroa. She was born in Gloucestershire, England, 82 years ago, and came to New Zealand as a young girl with her parents, Mr and Mrs Yewen. She married Mr J. Gundy in 1876, and lived at Akaroa until 25 years ago when she went to reside in Christchurch. Mr Gundy died 26 years ago. Mrs Gundy is survived by three daughters and four sons—Mesdames G. E. Whelch (Akaroa), A. Uren, and H. Harper (Christchurch), Messrs John Gundy (Christchurch), William Gundy (Waimate), Walter Gundy (Matamata, North Island), and Arthur Gundy (Christchurch). There are 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The funeral took place at the Bromley cemetery, the service being conducted by the Rev. R. Warnock. Many floral tributes were received.

MRS ERIC STRIDE

The death of Mrs Eric Stride, formerly Miss Margaret Elizabeth Howflen, ol Dunedin, occurred on Sunday at Lee-on-the-Solent, England. Mrs Stride, who was a daughter of Mr and Mrs J. A. Howden. of Port Chalmers, was 28 years old. She was married at Auckland about six months ago, to Mr Stride, a ship's wireless operator whose vessel will not arrive in England until early next month. Mrs Stride was a popular contralto singer who was well known both in Dunedin and in Christchurch.

GIFT PARTIES

Miss Joan Templeton was hostess at an enjoyable gift party held at the home of Mrs J. J. Hastie (Riccarton) in honour of Miss Noreen Hulbert, whose marriage will take place shortly. The guests brought green and primrose gifts for the kitchen of Miss Hulbert's future home. Winners of competitions were Mrs J. Hastie, Misses Noreen Hulbert, and Peggy Halstead. Amongst those present were Mesdames W. Hulbert, E. Dash, J. Forbes, A. templeton, J. Hastie, Misses N. Hulbert, Phyllis and Beverley Arscott, D. Comber, P. Coulter, J. Coulter, M. Larcombe, M. Templeton, N. McKendry, D. Liebert, Jean Irving, P. Halstead, and Joan Templeton.

Miss Rene Bolstad, whose marriage will take place this week, was the guest of honour morning tea party given at Ballantyries by Misses Joan and Phyllis Watkinson. The guests, who brought "variety' gifts for Miss Bolstad, were Mrs C. R. Watkinson, Mrs P. T. Watkinson, Misses Mattie Watkinson (Scotland), Jean Moore, Dorothy Wills, Betty Winchester, Rowena Erskine, Enid Moore, Doris Price, Nan Riston, and Margaret Gwynne (Wellington).

A "bathroom" gift party was held at Mrs H. Beal's home at East Eyreton, in honour of Miss Iris Clothier, whose marriage will take place next week. Competitions were won by Mesdames G. Winter, H. ClQthier, G. Cherry, WMartin, and Miss R. Piper. Among those present were Mesdames G. Winter, H. Clothier, B. Sanders, R. Cherry. H. Beal, .A. Cherry, G. Cherry. J. Higginson. F. Beal, T. Giles, W. SOCIAL AT NEW BRIGHTON

Members of the local and committees, of the New Brighton Free Kindergarten held a successful gift party for the kindergarten in the new schoolroom. The opportunity was also taken to say good-bye to. Mr and Mrs W. Hulme, who will leave shortly for a trip to England. The Mayor (Mr E. L. Smith), in extending best wishes to Mr and Mrs Hulme for an enjoyable holiday, presented Mrs Hulme with a travelling cushion as a token of appreciation of her work for the kindergarten. The time was spent in dancing, competitions, and musical items. Items were given by Mrs Leslie Scrimshaw, Miss G. Douglas, "The Jayet Family," and Messrs W. McNair and A. W. Kitchingham.

The accompanists were Mesdames W. McNair, L. Dorn, and L. Chamberlain. Mrs Dorn played the music for dancing and Mr A. Craib was master of ceremonies.

The monthly meeting of the St. Peter's Church branch of the Mothers' Union commenced with a service conducted by Archdeacon A. J. Petrie, in St. Peter's Church, Akaroa.

Later the enrolling member. Mrs Petrie, presided at the vicarage, and gave a description of the Mothers' Union festival held in Christchur hj on Wednesday. Arrangements were made for the annual meeting to be held in March. Afternoon tea vcj served by the hostesa. Sever.-' visiting members from Wainui were present.
