V. P. BOOT RETURNS
WELCOME AT ASHBURTON On his return to Ashburton from the Empire Games at Sydney, V. P. Boot was met at the railway station yesterday morning by the Mayor (Mr W. H. Woods), members of the Ashburton Amateur Athletic Club, of which he is captain, and by representatives of the secondary schools. Mr Woods briefly welcomed Boot back to his home town and called for three cheers. Speaking for the Athletic Club, Mr D. A Bird said that the club had had dvery confidence that Boot would succeed and that the club was proud of the record he had established in Australia. He congratulated Boot on his fine performance. Boot acknowledged the welcome.
