REMOVAL OF ANOMALIES
♦ SUPERANNUATION SCHEME SCHOOL TEACHERS’ PROPOSAL The Ashley branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute decided at its monthly meeting, held at Rangiora last evening, to approach the member of Parliament for the district with a view to having anomalies removed from the proposed superannuation scheme. Mr J. P. Farrell presided over a large attendance, A motion of sympathy was passed with Mr G. W. Soal, of Waikari School, in the loss of his son. The matter of holding a refresher course at Rangiora. covering arts and craft, infant method, and choral speaking, in April, was approved, the brancli having been notified that lecturers would be available during April. The meeting approved of the instir lute’s policy of increased minimum (ioor space in any new schools being built. It was decided to receive a depulalion from the Norfhorn Agricultural and Pastoral Association to discuss the branch’s decision to discontinue all school exhibits at . the Rangiora Show. Children for Health Camp A report was received from the school medical officer (Dr. E. Baker McLaglan) on the method of selecting children for inclusion at the health camp. The meeting adopted the report, with certain provisos, namely, (1) that teachers be asked for any information as to parents’ financial position; (2) that the nurse interview parents; (3' that teachers be informed of the pro visional selections made, in order to give them an opportunity to gather necessary information; (4) that the school medical officers give one week’s notice of their intention to visit a school for the purpose of selecting children; (5) that the names of children finally selected be sent to the schools: (6) that teachers are anxious to co-operate, provided they are given the necessary information. It was decided to approach the North Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute to convene a meeting, to consider the formation of a federation of branches of the institute in the Canterbury education district.
