WAGES OF FEMALE APPRENTICES Agreement was reached on most of the machinery clauses Jn the Canterbury, Nelson, and Marlborough Bespoke Tailoring Trade dispute in Conciliation Council yesterday, when the Commissioner (Mr S. Ritchie) presided. A 40-hour week on five days from Monday to Friday inclusive was adopted. Provision was made for a period of female apprenticeship of three years and of four years for coatmakers.

The starting wage for female apprentices was settled at 15s, with a rise of 4s every six months for five periods. A claim for 42s 6d for the sixth period was refused by the workers, but it was agreed to pay 47s 6d in the seventh six months. Wages for journeywomen were fixed at £2 15s and for journeywomen coatmakers at £3. The employers were represented by Messrs D. I. Macdonald (advocate), M. McKenzie, F. W. Panckhurst, W.. E.
