MR EDEN RESIGNS

The British Foreign Secretary (Mr B. A. Eden) has resigned from his office in the British Cabinet. In a letter to the Prime Minister (Mr Neville Chamberlain) he wrote that he has become increasingly conscious of a difference in outlook between Mr Chamberlain and himself in respect of international problems of the day. Mr Eden said: “If cannot be in the country’s interest that those directing its affairs should work in uneasy partnership, fully conscious of differences; of outlook, yet hoping they will hot recur.” Lord Halifax will probably be the near Foreign Secretary.

The immediate reason, for Mr EdeoAl resignation was that he wished Italy to cooperate fully with Britain in preventing intervention in the Spanish civil war, before Britain began talking of friendly approaches to Signor Mussolini. Mr Neville Chamberlain (the Prime Minister), on the other hand, is content to ignore the Spanish problem rather than offend Italy; he thinks that friendship among the Powers is of first importance. Grandchildren of Edward 1 ■ After 600 years it has been verified that the two grandchildren of Edward I, Mary Bohun (1300-4) and Humphrey Bohun (1301-5), lie in a tomb in the wall of St. John the Baptist Chapel, Westminster Abbey. For many years it has been doubt®** as to whether the children lay in the pa**' of the Abbey that tradition held, so the marble tomb in. -which they were said to» buried was opened recently and noted antiquarians were able to satisfy themselves as to'the identity of the children. .. aT * Exhumations in Westminster Abbey are extremely rare. This is only the second m the century.
