The District Governor. Mr F. G. Hall-Jones (Invercargill.) presided. He introduced the Hon. R. Bilaram, of Karachi, a Judge of the High Court of India, who is an enthusiastic Rotarian. Reports of Rotary in other countries were presented by Messrs H. S. M. Quigley (Dannevirke), United States and Canada; F. Mogridge (Blenheim), Latin America; R. Telford (Wellington), Great Britain; A. G. Tait (Timaru). Europe; E. A. Cockroft (Ashburton), Asia: and A. M. Satterthwaite i Christchurch), Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Reports of all countries indicated that Rotary was a vital force in many communities, carrying steadily forward an international mission of fellowship. Difficulties were faced in Europe, where the German and Spanish Clubs had been lost to the Rotary movement, but the Rotary spirit was still a persistent ray of hope In the midst of strife. A proposal that Rotary in New Zealand should take action as a corporate body to assist in awakening the community to a need which he considered urgent—for a greater population in New Zealand—was put forward by Mr E. S. Stubbs, of Oamaru, who had been commissioned last year to bring forward a report. A discussion followed and a resolution will be prepared for a later session. Addresses were given by Mr John Houston (Hawcra), on Maori problems, the Rev. W. A. Stevely (Dunedin) on “Fellowship in Rotary,” and Mr W. G. V. Fcrnie (Christchurch) on “Community Service.” Informal luncheons were held, one for presidents, one for former district governors, and a' third for secretaries and assistants. To-day's programme includes addresses by Sir Alexander Roberts (Wellington), Mr H. Thomas (Auckland), and Mr F. G. Milner (Oamaru). In the afternoon members of the conference will attend a matinee of trotting horses at the home of Mr J. R, McKenzie, Roydon Lodge, Yaldhurst.
