CRUSHED BY CAPSIZED TRUCK

* INQUEST ON WELL-KNOWN OTAGO FOOTBALLER (TRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) DUNEDIN, February 23. A verdict that Edmund Eugene Murphy, aged i 26, died from Injuries caused through being crushed by the truck he was driving when it accidentally capsized at Mihiwaka on January 29, was returned by the Coroner (Mr J. R. Bartholomew) at the inquest to-day.* Murphy was driving a Defence Department lorry along the narrow road between Waitati and Port Chalmers during military manoeuvres, when it skidded in loose gravel and capsized, Murphy suffering extensive injuries, which proved fatal. Murphy, who was a single man, aged 26, living at Roslyn, was ia storeman, employed by Cadbury, Fry, Hudson, Ltd. He had decided, however, to enter the Police Force, and his application had, it is understood, been favourably considered. Murphy was a well-known Rugby footballer. He was a member of the Kaikorai Club’s ■ senior team, and for the last five seasons had represented Otago.
