WOMENS' TEMPERANCE UNION
NORTH CANTERBURY EXECUTIVE The North Canterbury district executive of the Women's Christian Temperance Union met in the union's rooms, and Mrs Hall (president) presided. Twenty representatives from branches in the city and suburbs were present. Mrs Pirrett wrote resigning the position as treasurer, and Mrs Adkins was appointed to fill the position. Mrs Lowry reported that literature had been purchased, and branches were urged to procure a good supply for distribution. I Mrs Hall was appointed to represent ! the district at the Dominion convention, to be held at Napier early, in March. Branches were asked to do all in their power to send delegates to the convention. Mrs Whyte reported that a number of visits had been paid by union members to the mental hospital during the month, and they had also taken Christmas gifts. In January an afternoon social had been given at the women's reformatory at Addington. Further arrangements were made for the garden party, to be held at the home of Mrs A, S. Adams. SUMNER BRANCH « At the first meeting for the year held by the Sumner branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, a paper on "Frances Willard" was read by Miss A. E. Henderson. Arrangements were completed for distributing literature to members of the "cradle roll." It was decided to hold a membership campaign. Misses Kilner and Gates were hostesses at the tea hour.
