LOSS OF EXPECTATION OF LIFE
JURY AWARDS DAMAGES Cpbess association telegram.) WELLINGTON, February 3. Loss of expectation of life was the basis of a claim for £7500, which was heard in the Supreme Court before the Chief Justice (the Rt. Hon. Sir Michael Myers) and a jury. Plaintiff was Alfred McLeavey, of Te Horo, a farmer, as administrator of the estate of James Keith McLeavey, of Wellington, a motor-driver, and the defendants were Marris and Campbell, Ltd., of Wellington, cartage contractors.
The case arose from an accident in Wellington in June last year, McLeavey being knocked down by a motor-lorry. He died in hospital from internal injuries. The jury returned a verdiot for plaintiff for £2OO general damages, funeral and hospital expenses totalling £3B 17s 4d, and costs of the action.
