NEW BRIGHTON PICNIC
«, ARRANGEMENTS MADE BY COMMITTEE The interest shown by the large attendance at the meeting of the New Brighton Borough Picnic Committee augurs well for the success of the event. The Mayor (Mr E. L. Smith) presided. Details of arrangements for special tram-cars and trains were forwarded by the Christchurch Tramway Board and the Railway Department. Messrs F. W. Moore and V. W. Colville were appointed a •children’s sports committee, and Messrs D. Muirson, J. Seals, F. W. Larcombe, R. Parker, M. B. Hayes, W. B. Short, J. Kerr. J. Sands, and A. E. Marriott an adults* sports committee. Mesdames E. L. Smith and A. E. Marriott were appointed judges of the baby show and Mrs A. E. Marriott convener of the women’s committee. It was decided to invite four members of the St. John Ambulance Association to attend the picnic. Arrangements were made for each carriage in the trains to be in charge of a member of the committee. Arrangements lor a band to take part were left with Mr E. L. Smith. A comprehensive programme of children’s and adults’ events, including flat races and novelty events, was also arranged.
